About the role
We're looking for a designer-developer hybrid who can bridge the gap between beautiful design and production-ready code. This isn't just about implementing designs from Figma — you'll be expected to contribute design thinking and make smart decisions about how experiences should work in the browser.
You'll work closely with our chief design engineer (that's me, David) on client projects for scaling startups, bringing modern web experiences to life with clean, maintainable code.
What you'll do
- Translate Figma designs into pixel-perfect, accessible HTML and CSS
- Build component-based systems using modern frameworks (React, Astro, Lit)
- Contribute design thinking and UX improvements alongside implementation
- Write tests to ensure code quality and catch regressions early
- Collaborate asynchronously using modern tools like Linear, Notion, and AI coding assistants
- Maintain and refactor existing codebases with care and attention to detail
- Balance technical excellence with practical constraints and project timelines
Required experience
- Strong fundamentals: Clean, semantic, accessible HTML & CSS
- Modern frameworks: React, Astro
- Styling: Tailwind CSS
- Web components: Lit or similar
- Testing: Test-driven development with Vitest or similar tools
- Collaboration tools: Notion, Linear, or comparable project management platforms
